title: Table Topic Master: Awkward moments description: On 2025-10-25 hosted a table topics session in CAAS TMC. —
Dear Fellow members, Distinguished guests,
Start with Vulnerability 破冰自曝 Begin by sharing your own awkward story to create a safe space.
Use a fun sound (e.g., a bell) to signal when time is up.
Award “Most Creative Recovery” instead of “Most Awkward Moment”.
Allow speakers to respond in either language, or mix both for humor. —
Good morning.
Today I am glad to host the table topics session. However, I am not the Table Topics Master.
Actually, I don’t want to alarm anybody in this room, but it’s just come to my attention that the person to your right is a master. Also, the person to your left is a master. In fact the person sitting in every seat is a Master. You just need come to the stage.
First there are 8 rules here, a lot but very simple.
When you come to the stage, we shake hands first with smiles, of course.
Then I will ask you a question about today’s Table Topics.
You speak out the question, think about it for 10 seconds, then deliver a speech as the answer.
Your speech should be at least 1 minute long, but no longer than 2 minutes. Please respect our timer’s signal.
One of the audience could challenge you with a question.
You can answer that question, too.
Please write down your name on the white board after your speech.
We shake hands and you can go back to sit.
Are there any questions? OK, let’s begin.
《电梯逃生记》** Your stomach loudly rumbles in a silent, crowded elevator. How do you break the tension?
《错位的拥抱》** You enthusiastically hug someone from behind… only to realize it’s a stranger. What’s your next move?
《视频会议的神秘嘉宾》** Your pet (or family member) bursts into the frame during a serious video call. Describe the scene.
《临时失忆的称呼》** You call your colleague by the wrong name—repeatedly. How do you recover?
《卫生纸危机》** You’re trapped in a restroom stall with no toilet paper. How do you call for help without humiliation?
《自动纠正的背叛》** Your phone “autocorrects” a harmless message into something deeply embarrassing. What did it say?
《手滑的“回复所有人”》** You accidentally send a private rant about your boss to the entire team. How do you save your job?
《衣橱事故现场》** Your zipper breaks minutes before an important presentation. What’s your creative fix?
《错位的挥手》** You wave energetically at someone across the room… who is actually waving at the person behind you.
《公共场所的“独奏会”》** Your music suddenly blasts through headphones in a quiet library. What song shocked everyone?
Awkward moments don’t define us — how we recover does. The real courage is laughing at ourselves while continuing to connect boldly. May we never stop being vulnerable enough to create awkward moments — because perfect people never have stories worth telling.
