Dear fellow members, honored leaders,
present here and online, good evening.
Tonight, I stand here searching for those sparkling eyes—eyes full of passion, hope, and a hunger for growth. Because I know: where there are sparkling eyes, great things happen.
Five years ago, I dragged myself into a Toastmasters meeting, hoping to improve my English public speaking. (Raise your hands if you’ve been there too! Thank you.)
Just months later, I became the club president—not because I was ready, but because my club needed help. I rallied our officers, and together, we revived it. Today, my home club—Shanghai Yu-Life—is a President’s Distinguished Club. And I know we’ll keep thriving because I still see those sparkling eyes at every meeting.
Eighteen months ago, I coached our sister club, Xinzhuang Bilingual. At first, we had just 5 attendees—including me and the other coach! (Raise your hands if you’ve survived tiny meetings! Fun, right?) But we persisted. Today? The club is a Selected distinguished club. They will be a President’s distinguished club next term because their eyes are still sparkling.
One year ago, after a meeting like tonight, I became Area Director N4. Our clubs spanned from Minhang to Fengxian—including a struggling club, a corporate club and a newborn club. At the first district officer training, I declared: N4 will be President’s Distinguished because I saw our Division Director’s sparkling eyes—full of belief. And we did it.
Now, I’m running for Division N Director. Yes, it’s a challenge: 4 areas, 16 clubs, 500+ members. But my strategy is simple: Find those sparkling eyes—because they’re eager to grow, hungry to lead, and committed to excellence. When we keep them in Toastmasters, great things happen.
