title: How a Toastmasters club works description: On 2024-11-06 I plan to explain this to the to-be-charted Walmart Sourcing on-line club a club sponsor. —
Good evening. Dear Fellow members, Distinguished guests,
Congratulations to Walmart Sourcing team for almost successfully chartering a new club.
I heard that you are all leaders in this club. That’s great.
Building and running a new club seems to be a daunting job. However, you don’t need to worry about it too much because you have support from a 100-year organization.
You may wonder where the support comes. This is exactly what I am going to talk about.
Let’s start.
Under the title of how a Toastmasters club works, I want to address the following points.
Your best consultant - This is how we get the correct answers. Who is it?
The product of your club - what do you think?
Club Officers - the leaders without authority.
Moments of Truth - the best practice for all distinguished clubs
get support - You are not alone.
In Walmart, when you want to have information about a product, where would you go? You will visit the Walmart website, right?
Your best consultant is the Toastmasters International’s web site.
Do you know where it is? www.toastmasters.org.
Every Toastmasters member has a home in toastmasters web. You need login to access your home. Login is easy. You use your email as you provided for register, and you need set a password at your first login. The password needs to be strong with capital letters, numbers and special characters.
Club officers have access to Club Central where you can put in the information of your club so that people all over the world can use “Find a club” to find it.
In the resource menu, you can search for various materials. For example, you can find the responsibility of each club officers, the workable procedure of each meeting role. This will make you feel much relaxed about the club.
In the shop menu, you can order useful tools for your club, like badges and books. I know it’s a piece of cake for Walmart sourcing team. You are the experts for buying goods. Maybe you can help toastmasters to change their shop design.
The Base Camp is the place you perform your learning pathways. Each time you work on a project of your pathways, you use Base Camp to track the progress. It is permanent for a member. You can restart it if you leave the club and come back again.
The Learning Hub is where you select your pathways from the six pathways.
The achievement board is the place to see your education, officers and other achievement as a toastmasters.
There are a lot of useful things in the web. What I can tell is just a tip of the iceberg. I hope you can visit it as often as you visit Walmart’s website.
Who can tell me what the product of your club? What is it?
Yes, it is the meeting. Meetings are the product of your club.
I know that we already had a demo meeting. I recall that it was a very successful meeting. That is an example of a club meeting.
Here is an overview of your meeting.
The club members and officers can define the meeting format - online. How often is the meeting? Is it weekly or biweekly? What’s the language? I think it is English. How long will the meeting last? 1 hour, 2 hours?
This information should be correct in your Club Central.
In a meeting, there are more than 10 meeting roles including SAA, president, TMD, GE, Timer, Ah-Counter, Grammarian, TTM, TTS, TTE, PS, IE. You see why we need a minimum of 20 members for a good-standing club because we really need people for a normal meeting.
The meeting roles’ responsibility are available and should be learned by each member.
To make a club working properly, we need club officers as the club leaders.
First, let’s be clear about Toastmasters’ year: July 1 to June 30 next year.
The club officer terms are defined clearly here.
Clubs that meet weekly may elect officers annually or semiannually. If the club elects semiannually, elections are held at the first meeting in May and again at the first meeting in November. Clubs that meet less frequently than weekly must elect officers annually, with the elections in May.
Annual office terms must run from July 1 through June 30; semiannual terms must run from July 1 through December 31 and January 1 through June 30.
The 7 club officers - president, VPE, VPM, VPPR, Secretary, Treasurer and SAA, plus the immediate Past club president - consist of the club executive committee. This is the core leadership team for the club. The most important thing for the committee is to finish the club success plan during the first committee meeting - including creating club vision, deciding club value, etc.
You can consult your club mentors for this as well.
I think Walmart is not unfamiliar with MOT - practicing servant leadership.
Moments of Truth outlines how to create a positive first impression of your club, and recognize and deal with situations critical to club success.
How would your club handle the guests in the first place/
How would your club treat your members?
What kind of culture is your club embracing?
Are the meetings interesting and entertaining?
Are club members active in the club?
This is very important as a club?
Is the recognition timely? Is the recognition public?
Have your club provide special meeting for your first … member?
The key is to keep on doing this to the highest standard like in Walmart. Your club will be a distinguished club.
New clubs are like our babies. We will help you any time you ask. They are many ways to get support.
The district will provide COT, NMO, and the Area will hold area council meetings. These are opportunity to share your issues with all the people who can provide help.
You have club mentors, sponsors, and even coaches. They are made to help you.
You can always write to Toastmasters asking questions and support. I know there are more than 10 Walmart Toastmasters clubs. You have great resources globally. Use your source talents to get support is just a piece of cake.
I am confident that this club will be thrive. Do you still have questions?
