Thank you, Toastmaster of the Day.

Dear fellow toastmasters, dear leaders,

My name is laoxie. I am very pleased to come to the FedEx club and share with you the things I know about Toastmasters.

Let’s look at some numbers. Raise your hands if know the meaning of these numbers.

1971 - the establishment of FedEx in the United States.

220+ - Toady FedEx is operating in over 220 countries globally.

500000+ - There are more than 500000 employees in FedEx.

FedEx is very successful.

Let’s see another set of numbers.

1924 - the foundation of Toastmasters International in the United States.

148 - Now there are Toastmasters club in over 148 countries all over the world.

300000 - The total number of members of Toastmasters is about 300000 now.

Toastmasters International is very successful non-profit organization.

Actually, FedEx and Toastmasters has very close relationship. Do you know that

Frederick W. Smith was an active Toastmasters member in his early career?

What’s more:

FedEx has a strong culture of effective communication and leadership development, aligning with Toastmasters’ mission.

Who knows about Toastmasters International’s mission?

We empower individuals to become more effective communicators and leaders.

Today, I am going to give your a very brief introduction of Toastmasters International regarding its

History - Organization - about District 85 - something you would like to know about club - what you can do as a member

If you have questions, you can stop me and we can discuss.

History

We already know that Toastmasters was founded in 1924, but just like the idea of FedEx was originated in 1965 far before the establishment of the company, the first unofficial Toastmasters meeting was in 1905. District 85 is very young though, Shanghai became a district just in 2020.

Organization

This is the organization of Toastmasters. We have a structure similar to a corporate.

World Headquarters - Board of Directors - Regions - Districts - Divisions - Areas - Clubs - Members.

D85

District 85 is part of region 14. Region 14 is really just China.

There are 112 clubs in District 85 distributed in 7 Divisions - KLNOPQR. Each Division has 4 Areas.

For example, I am the current Division Director of Division N in District 85.

Who knows where FedEx Shanghai Growing club is?

Yes, it is one of the 4 clubs in Area 2 of Division N.

club

Let’s see what our club’s performance looks like.

You have 16 members, while the DCP is 2. I encourage you attend today’s COT. You will learn how to improve your DCP.

I know there are at least 2 other clubs from FedEx in China, one in Guangzhou and another in Wuhan. They are not in D85.

FedEx club Wuhan has much longer history than our club in Shanghai, while its DCP is just 1.

However, I am very glad to see that FedEx Guangzhou is a President’s Distinguished club.

For the company, it would be a very interesting project if you can find the correlation between a successful club and a successful team. I would assume that FedEx Guangzhou performs better than Shanghai and Wuhan.

member

As a member, if you would like to take the chance there are many things you can achieve in the club. You can

  1. work your Pathways projects - there are 6 pathways you can choose.

  2. practice your leadership - there are 7 different club officers you can do.

  3. You can join the yearly speech contest - you may become the next world public speech champion.

  4. You can start your journey to the highest educational achievement in Toastmasters - DTM: not for disappeared toastmasters but for distinguished toastmasters.

  5. Yes, there are things you can explore, like to become an Area Director, an Division Director.

Toastmasters is where leaders are made. If you want, you can be a leader in the club, in your company and in your life.

Now I would like to take questions if you have.
